Extinguisher is marked DOT. DOT will be marked on the cylinder and/or printed on the label or sticker and must be serviced by DOT certified extinguisher license. Requires DOT‑authorized hydrostatic testing facility U.S. Department of Transportation’s Pipeline and Hazardous Materials Safety Administration (PHMSA) maintains an RIN (Retester Identification Number) Locator that lists all approved cylinder requalifiers and hydrostatic test facilities nationwide.
How to Search for a Facility:
1) Go to the PHMSA RIN/VIN Locator Tool: (PHMSA Portal)

2) Enter your city, state, or ZIP code (e.g., “Los Angeles, CA” or “90001”).
3) The tool will display a list of approved facilities with: a) Facility name and address, b) Contact information, c) Authorized testing methods and cylinder specifications
4) Review the results to ensure the facility is DOT certified for your cylinder type and pressure range.
Where to find the RIN on a fire extinguisher: Look for the RIN Stamp A) printed on the extinguisher cylinder, near valve (top) or side, B) The RIN will be followed by the test date in a standardized format (e.g., 1205322062, where 1205 is the 24 hour clock time, 322 is the day of the year, 06 is the year, and 2 is the assembly line). C) The RIN is part of the cylinder marking that also includes the manufacturer’s name, model number, and serial number
